About us
The Sandy Vohra Foundation was created in 2009 by Gurcharan Singh Vohra (fondly known as Chani), in memory of his late son, our beloved Sandy Vohra. Both Sandy and Chani were visionaries and passionate conservationists. They deeply believed in preserving nature and changing the world around them. We salute them, their awareness and consciousness.
From humble beginnings, Chani was a man who innately believed in the power of will and we all grew up believing in a world of possibility. The heart of his essence spoke to driving change and progression. He educated youth, spent one afternoon a week distributing shoes to those in need, planted thousands of trees all over Kenya, involved himself in the movement to save elephants and donated generously to the Spinal Injury hospital and Paraplegic Centre. He had enormous pride in the work of his son Sandy.
Sandy loved life to blend with Mother Nature and had many dreams to beautify and preserve the environs of Nairobi. He instituted the CBD (Central Business District) with a mission to revive, clean and light up the city centre and preserve its’ history and heritage, initiated the planting of 10,000 trees in Nakuru National Park as well as the Cycle with Rhinos project in Nakuru National Park supported through Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in partnership with KWS to protect and create awareness on the endangered species. An untimely passing of this beautiful soul led to this Foundation.
The Foundation’s purpose is to carry on the work of these two powerful leaders to create a better future.
Our Foundation Pillars are:
