In January 2010, we commenced our first Sandy Vohra Foundation project with planting trees in a 3km stretch of the Nairobi National Park, in conjunction with Greenline and KWS. This involved fencing the area, drilling of a borehole to fulfill water requirements for the whole Greenline project and planting 30,000 indigenous trees as well as a public picnic site dedicated to Sandy Vohra. We have also since planted trees in schools and churches.

The Mangrove Project

Our second major project has been in partnership with My Green Story and Bigship and involves the planting of Mangrove trees which result in a significantly elevated carbon absorption. The initiative to plant a minimum of 1 million trees creates a wholly integrated sustainability story with recycling and beehive projects on the land providing income for communities.

Effects of Deforestation

Deforestation is responsible for as much as 30% greenhouse gas emissions. Trees are the biggest plants on our planet, they give us oxygen and keep our air clean by filtering out carbon and other pollutants from the atmosphere. Water cycles are also affected by deforestation as the content of water in the soil is reduced and this causes erosion, flooding and landslides. Trees are a significant part of our eco system extracting groundwater through their roots and releasing it into the atmosphere as they provide home to birds, insects and wildlife.
